One easy and fun way to break into acting and the entertainment industry is to work as an extra. Extras are the actors used in the background and crowd scenes in film and television shows. Extras casting is conducted by viewing profiles and matching them with criteria that the casting director has set forth. From the biggest budgets to very small productions, extras are needed and they are casting for extras with your look right now. Normally, you will not have any lines. Usually your job is to stand, pose, or move through the background of the scene.

Being on the production set is a great way to get noticed. Numerous actors got their start being extras in movies, TV shows, and even commercials. As an extra, you choose the hours you want to work. You can take a break or vacation at any time. Extras casting takes place all over the world, so one of the best parts about being an extra is being able to work at locations all over the United States and other countries.

More extras are always needed. Extras casting is a continuous, ongoing process because casting directors want to make sure that the same people do not appear in the same scenes more than once. Most people don't realize what a big part of the industry extras casting is, but consider, while most productions may include 15-20 leading actors, many large scale productions often require anywhere from several hundred to a few thousand extras for a day's shooting. People of all different ages, looks, and backgrounds are needed, so take a shot - it could lead to your big break!
